Company, Independence & Conflict of Interest Disclosure

OpenBook Clinical is an Australian company, founded in 2024 by an AHPRA-registered allied health professional who experienced first-hand the friction of finding high-quality clinical evidence during a busy clinical day.

Mission: To democratise access to high-quality clinical evidence for allied health professionals across Australia, so that any clinician, in any setting, can access the same quality of evidence that was previously only available to those with university database access or hours of spare time.

Having a practising clinician as founder means every product decision is tested against the question: “Would this actually work in a clinical setting?” The platform is not a general-purpose AI tool that has been rebranded for healthcare. It was designed specifically for the evidence workflows of AHPRA-regulated allied health professionals.

OpenBook Clinical is entirely bootstrapped. The company has not taken any external investment: no venture capital, no angel funding, no grants from pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, or any commercial entity with an interest in clinical evidence or prescribing.

The platform generates revenue exclusively through clinician and institutional subscriptions. There is no advertising model, no sponsored content, and no arrangement that would give any third party the ability to influence what appears in search results or clinical summaries.

We make this disclosure because we believe clinicians have a right to know whether the tool they use for evidence has any commercial bias. Our business model (subscription revenue only) is deliberately designed to avoid the conflicts of interest that advertising-funded or pharma-sponsored platforms cannot escape.

A typical clinical question takes an allied health professional between 30 minutes and two hours to answer properly. First, you formulate a PICO question. Then you search PubMed, navigating MeSH terms, boolean operators, and date filters. You filter by study type. You chase full-text access. You check the NHMRC guideline portal. You look for Cochrane reviews. You read abstracts. By the time you have a usable answer, your next patient is already waiting.

In practice, many clinicians skip this process entirely, or rely on textbooks that are five years out of date, or defer to what a senior colleague once said. Not because they do not care about the evidence, but because the friction is too high.

OpenBook Clinical searches PubMed (35+ million papers), Cochrane, Australian NHMRC guidelines, and discipline-specific databases simultaneously. An AI synthesis layer reads and grades the results, then produces a structured clinical summary (including evidence level, quality rating, key findings, and direct citations) in under 90 seconds.

The Clinical Advisory Board will be independent of the founding team and company management. Members will be required to:

• Hold current AHPRA registration in an allied health discipline
• Disclose any conflicts of interest before joining and on an ongoing basis
• Provide independent clinical governance oversight, not promotional endorsement
• Review clinical safety incidents and near-misses reported by users
• Guide the evolution of the platform's clinical scope and limitations

Board members are not paid for their participation. Any reasonable expenses incurred in connection with board duties will be reimbursed.

AHPRA-registered clinicians interested in joining the Clinical Advisory Board should email openbookclinical@gmail.com with “Clinical Advisory Board” in the subject line.

Users retain full intellectual property rights over:

• Research questions, queries, and prompts submitted to the platform
• Documents, datasets, manuscripts, and other materials uploaded by the user
• Outputs, analyses, and synthesis generated by the platform in response to user queries
• Any research ideas, insights, or inventions arising from use of the platform

No training on your data: OpenBook Clinical will not use your queries, uploaded documents, or generated outputs to train, fine-tune, or improve any AI model, foundation model, or machine learning system. This commitment applies to our AI provider (Anthropic PBC), which processes queries under a zero-data-retention, no-training agreement.

This commitment is codified in our Terms of Service and our Data Processing Agreement (Section 10: Intellectual Property).
